Sports are like an ice cream Sunday; an analogy

There has been lots of talk recently about the results of Canadians and whether Own the Podium has really worked. This is how I see sports, in my context, figure skating...

The most important ingredient of an ice cream Sunday is the ice cream of course, that represents all the practice you put into your sport and all the competitions and years of work. Everyone participating in different sports could be different flavours of ice cream. The chocolate or caramel sauce on top is your parents, friends and coaches, they surround you and help you in your sport, without the sauce you are just ice cream and not a Sunday. You can also add some nuts or other toppings, other people that help you be the best you can be.

Medals are like the cherry on top, they are a great reward at the end of lots of work. But to make a Sunday, the cherry is not essential, it just makes things ... greater.

For me sport is all about the journey, the medals are a great bonus and every one wants one, but the Sunday is still delicious even without it. I savour every bite of my Sunday. I am sure Virtue and Moir have a chocolate covered cherry on their Sunday, the best type of cherry you can get!
